About our web hosting solutions

Introduction

This page explains who our web hosting platforms are designed for and what kinds of platforms you can choose from.

Who is our web hosting for?

Our web server solutions are for clients who need:

  • ongoing local support
  • access to plugins that increase subscription costs
  • scalability and portability
  • improved network speeds
  • more disk space and/or bandwidth
  • increased DNS functionality e.g. Microsoft 365 email integration

Businesses rely on our web hosting because of the flexibility we provide as standard. For instance, a shopping cart option or a WordPress plugin might mean an expensive subscription increase at mass market suppliers like Wix and Shopify. Also, our Enterprise network performance helps metrics for search engine optimization and customer experience.

Another reason is that many entry level services are not portable, locking users into ongoing services with potentially inflated costs. Our clients want exclusivity so that web site design, copyright, and portability remain in their control.

Extra features and cost

Our web servers are configured with SSL as standard. Also. we provide a library of nearly five hundred click-to-install applications designed for immediate use to address a wide range of business uses, including:

Local service means we can work with you to to turn cost into investment. You might not need a bare metal server, but even the cost of that is probably less than you imagine. Look for our WhatsApp button and send us a link to your web site address and we will get back to you with some homework already done.

We tailor cost to suit individual needs, and services are priced from as little as £145 annually for shared hosting.

Shared vs Dedicated servers

Shared Hosting

Shared hosting is an economical way to dilute costs. A Virtual Private Server (VPS),  also called Shared Hosting, or Virtual Hosting. relies on an array of geographically located servers to pool computer resources so that potentially hundreds of businesses can share datacenter costs between subscribers.

Shared web hosting is cost efficient. A web site owner has no control over the server itself though, and the equipment operator strictly controls what individual web site owners can do. As web site complexity grows, issues like portabilty loom ever larger. Lastly your web site performance can be affected by network problems caused by other accounts on the same server. This kind of network and qiality of service (QOS) degradtion can affect search engine rankings.

Dedicated Server

A dedicated, or “bare metal” server belongs completely to its owner and the server’s performance or identity cannot be compromised by association with other shared resources. The trade off is cost, but good advice can reduce costs. Usually, a business rents a “bare metal” server from a supplier who has access to the unit to manage the hardware and change/upgrade parts and the “LAMP” (i.e. the components of a Linux operating system).

A lot of business owners imagine they own a dedicated server. In reality, they operate a “virtual” or shared server.

What kind of server is right for you?

Shared or Virtual hosting

The economies of scale that come with shared hosting are hard to ignore, and most of our clients rely on our shared hosting services. We operate significantly fewer web sites in a shared environment than mass market suppliers, and we operate installations in your geographical area to bring services closer to your customers. Also, we work closely with clients so that we can plan a fixed cost for the kinds of use that a global supplier cannot grant without chargeable extras, or even at all. We can usually provide dedicated IP addresses for our shared hosting if needed. SSL is a standard provision today, and we can provide higher specification SSL certificates.

Our servers are configured with regulalry updated stable versions of Linux. cPanel/WHM – the global standard in web site management interfaces – is a front end graphical user interface for your own IT staff or web designers.

To make life easy, we provide a library of single-click automated installation scripts for almost 500 open source programs like WordPress.

Web site control panel management is not everyone’s cup of tea, and we provide support – locally – if you want it.

Bare metal – dedicated servers

For businesses that need exclusivity of ownership, custom nameservers, IPv6 and root access, we can provision bare metal in any of 50 cities on not more than three days notice.

Email

Our customers come to us because they want better performance from their web site services. So, even though our web servers can operate email utilities, we recommend that email is directed to professional services like Microsoft 365 where GDPR compliance and Enterprise quality of service is provided at economies of scale that are beyond the scope of standard Linux deployments. We are Microsoft Partners and we can help with email technology.

Fast page loads

We mentioned above that we can deploy your presence in any of about 50 countries. In the UK, we operate equipment in London.

No matter how well designed your web pages are, getting your pages to and end user depends on the quality of the cabling that delivers them. In the UK we locate services in a London datacenter capable of delivering content to the national backbone at 10Gbps. Depending on the quality of an end user’s broadband service, it takes 5-8 “hops” to route pages to web site visitors. This matters where search engine optimization is critical.

Email

Businesses ringfence email using specialised email systems and solutions to manage risk and avoid a situation that catastrophically damages their web site.

Malicious infiltration poses risks that threaten your web site’s availability. Recovering a web site that is consequentially compromised by email abuse can incur unpredictable recovery costs and interrupt your ability to promote products and process orders.

Instead, email should be managed with professional services like Microsoft 365 where high availability, archiving, and scalability are already built into a GDPR-compliant architecture. We are Microsoft Partners and we are glad to help you with compliant email services.

Users who operate email under our web server provision do so at their own risk and any intervention we are asked for is an additional cost to existing support.
